God's leading will take the SPC team (Pastor Eric Flood, Peggy Boysen, Lilly Staar and Suzanne Hein) to the I.R.E.F. Christian ministry and orphanage, located in the rural mountaineous areas of southern India. From January 28 - February 11, 2012, SPC will be joining several pastors, doctors and helpers from the United States, Scotland and United Kingdom to help further God's kingdom in India, by providing annual checkups to 5,000 at the orphanage and setting up medical clinics in area villages, and so much more.. This blog is a diary of our 2 week trip.

The Sights and Sounds of India

Today was focused on exploring the city of Chennai. You haven't lived until you've ridden a motorized rickshaw through the organized chaos of Indian streets. Lane markers mean nothing. And following distances are measured in centimeters. Keep arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times!

The ladies rode to the market for punjabis. They followed Dee through allies and walkways to the right store. They're sporting new outfits and are ready for the week.

The rest of the group visited the beach, a shrine, and a coffee shop. We drove by an open air fish market, goats in the street, and slums. Getting acclimated to the culture and acquainted with the team is underway.

In the afternoon we took vans to the Mt. of St. Thomas. The apostle is reported to have arrived in India in AD 52 to share the gospel. He was martyred in AD 72. The shrine itself is somewhat anticlimactic... it contains a bone from Thomas's toe... supposedly. But the story of such commitment to Jesus' command to make disciples of all nations is inspiring. And it is on a site where you can see the city stretch out for miles in every direction. It was the backdrop for this picture.

We'll be leaving soon for the train to Repalle. We'll arrive by morning. And I hear the receptions are amazing. We'll share another update when we can. But the pace will pick up when we arrive. We'll be training pastors in the morning, running the medical clinic in the afternoon, and conducting evangelistic meetings at night. Keep praying!
